SCC: Setting the Record Straight
Aurora, CO, December 9, 2024
Second Chance Center, Inc. (SCC) is a trusted community partner that has served the greater Denver metropolitan area with integrity and purpose for over a decade. Our mission is to empower individuals reentering society after incarceration by offering essential supportive services that facilitate a smoother and more successful transition. Steadfast in our foundational purpose, we remain resolute in our commitment to providing these transformative services to the individuals and families we serve. We are also dedicated to upholding the highest standards of transparency, compliance, and accountable stewardship of the resources entrusted to us.
CPR News recently published an article discussing funding for mental health and addiction services, briefly mentioning Second Chance Center. The article inaccurately claims that someone was released into our custody.
To clarify, SCC’s role is to partner with the competency court to provide vital services to individuals deemed incompetent to stand trial. We do not assume custody or custodial responsibilities for these individuals. SCC provides immediate assessments and interventions to individuals recently released from jail before connecting them to community partners for ongoing care through licensed behavioral health navigators with expertise in mental health, substance abuse, and dual diagnosis, allowing us to provide individuals with the care options they choose to address their needs in a trusted environment.
We hope this information provides context and clarity.
SCC is proud of its partnership with Caring for Denver and the positive impact we have made in tackling substance abuse and mental health challenges in our community through the grant funds we receive. We offer comprehensive mental health and addiction recovery services, staffed by licensed counselors, clinicians, and people with lived experience, which we believe are vital to the success of individuals transitioning back into society. Our programs provide specialized support and interventions for individuals facing mental health issues, substance use disorders, or co-occurring conditions. Without the vital grant funding from Caring for Denver, SCC would have significantly fewer resources to invest in these essential programs.
We are deeply grateful for Caring for Denver’s investment and commitment to empowering organizations like ours to make a tangible difference in the lives of those facing mental health and addiction challenges. SCC will continue to leverage these resources to provide high-quality, evidence-based services that promote lasting recovery and community reintegration.
SCC is dedicated to serving those in need within our community. If you or someone you know is seeking support, we invite you to reach out to us at info@scccolorado.org or 303-537-5838 to learn more about our services and connect with the support you need. We are here to listen and offer assistance.
